Diving was so much fun that I had to do it again! Dive Sint Maarten gave such a wonderful experience and after hearing about their night diving, I had to try it out. We went to a dive site called Mike’s Maize and it was gorgeous. Compared to the day dive I had two days prior, we didn’t see nearly as much wildlife. We got lucky and swam with another sea turtle, but it didn’t want to swim with us so we left in alone. Some lobsters and sting rays made some guest visits from time to time, but most of the fish were asleep. However, the coral was abundant and well worth the visit. Different shades of purple, yellow, orange and red lit the ocean floor in a movie-like setting. The name, Mike’s Maize, was well suited for the dive site as we were swimming through reef shelfs on either side of us in a winding pattern. At one point we dove underneath a bridge-like shelf that can only be described as an underwater tunnel. Although I had my reservations about going on a night dive, I’m really glad that I stuck it out. The beginning part where you have to roll backwards into a pitch black ocean was very intimidating. After that, it was beautiful in its’ own way and I hope to do another night dive when I get the chance. Below are some more photos of the dive. I was struggling to use the flashlight and the GoPro at the same time because the flash light was so concentrated that in most of my photos it’s difficult to make out the picture I was trying to capture. In the future, I would like to be more proficient with the flashlight settings and/or getting a flashlight that works better with my camera. Here are some other cool photos:
